The House of Lyria is based in Prato in the heart of Italy’s textile industry. Its founder, Riccardo Bruni, draws inspiration from all around, scanning old photographs and recalling memories of his grandparents’ linen sheets. He has a particular affinity for ideas of the imperfect – stemming from the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi – and so selects natural fibres with a lived-in feel. Situated in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, not far from the Greek border, is a workshop committed to maintaining the age-old textile techniques of the region. Our blanket is made there from a heavy wool gathered by local shepherds and is inspired by the traditional Bulgarian shevitza – a distinctive folklore decoration applied to clothes and costumes throughout the country.
